2014 Fantasy Football Rankings v3.0

With training camps in full force and several teams already having a preseason game under their belts, it was time for a rankings update.

There have been some fairly big injuries since my last update:
David Wilson's neck injury now has him retiring at a young age.
Vick Ballard tore his Achilles and Kendall Hunter tore his ACL (both are done for the year).
Cecil Shorts, Jonathan Stewart, and Steven Jackson are all sitting out in camp due to hamstring issues (I know, shocker!).

Hey Ray. Let's move on and play better, OK?
On the suspension front, Ray Rice only got 2 games (as opposed to the expected 4).  Meanwhile, Josh Gordon is awaiting an answer on his appeal.  I'll leave Gordon in my watch list at the bottom, but I'm not optimistic.  I've removed Justin Blackmon altogether because he can't even APPLY for reinstatement until Week 9 of the season.  And even then, I don't think he'll be back because he's since been arrested for weed.   It's not looking good for either of those guys, but hopefully we'll have a little more clarity on Gordon before the season starts.

All of these things have me shaking up the rankings, and I'm also starting to refine it even further for my own personal draft.  My keepers are likely to be Peyton Manning and Jordy Nelson, and I'll probably be picking near the end of the 1st round.  Anyway, this might be my last rankings update before my own draft (which is in two weeks), but I'll still get a couple of articles out in the meantime if that's the case.

Let's see how the rankings look today!

1. Jamaal Charles
2. LeSean McCoy
3. Adrian Peterson
4. Matt Forte
5. Eddie Lacy
6. Marshawn Lynch
7. Jimmy Graham
8. Calvin Johnson: Moved Megatron back up, considering he's more of a "sure thing" in round one.
9. DeMarco Murray: He may not play 16 games, but should be a stud RB when he's in there.
10. Montee Ball
11. Le'Veon Bell
12. Dez Bryant: Moved up two spots, but splitting hairs with these 3 WRs. I like that Dez is in a contract year though.
13. Demaryius Thomas
14. A.J. Green
15. Peyton Manning: It may look like I'm lowering him, but it really just helps me see the different tiers better.
16. Drew Brees
17. Aaron Rodgers
18. Arian Foster: Sitting out in camp already with an undisclosed injury. He's making me nervous...
19. Giovani Bernard: And lowering Gio with Foster as well.  I think I'm a little too high on him for the type of back he is.
20. Zac Stacy
21. Alfred Morris
22. Doug Martin
23. Brandon Marshall
24. Julio Jones: Up just one spot over Brown.  Julio, if healthy, has #1 overall WR ceiling.  IF healthy...
25. Jordy Nelson: Likewise, I think Jordy has potential for being top-3 overall fantasy WR.
26. Antonio Brown
27. Alshon Jeffery
28. Randall Cobb
29. Rob Gronkowski
30. Julius Thomas
31. Andre Ellington
32. Rashad Jennings: I've been moving Jennings up all preseason, so why stop now?
33. Toby Gerhart
34. C.J. Spiller
35. Pierre Garcon
36. Keenan Allen
37. Vincent Jackson
38. Andre Johnson: Moved Andre and this trio of WRs up a few spots to this tier.
39. Larry Fitzgerald
40. Victor Cruz
41. Bishop Sankey
42. Joique Bell: Moved him up considerably, leapfrogging his teammate Reggie Bush.
43. Shane Vereen
44. Ryan Mathews
45. Reggie Bush
46. Frank Gore: With so many 49er RB injuries, had to move Gore up a little bit. He's losing his competition for touches!
47. Chris Johnson
48. Ray Rice: Only a 2 game suspension, so moved him up a couple spots (but not getting carried away).
49. Steven Jackson: He's up a bit too, but the injury bug keeps me from moving him too high.
50. Trent Richardson
51. Roddy White: Not only the Hard Knocks effect, but I just had Roddy WAY too low.
52. Torrey Smith
53. Cordarelle Patterson
54. Wes Welker: Swapped him with Torrey Smith.  Both in contract years, but Welker has injury concerns.
55. Ben Tate: Terrance West getting hyped up in camp, so I'm reacting and lowering Tate a bit.
56. Lamar Miller: Has (another) great chance to be the lead back in Miami.  Moreno still limping around...
57. DeSean Jackson: Down a couple of spots. His fragility showed off in practice against the Pats.
58. Michael Crabtree
59. Percy Harvin
60. Matthew Stafford: Decided to move Stafford down a few spots, and he and Luck together down a few more.
61. Andrew Luck
62. Jordan Cameron: In a contract year and pretty much the only guy to throw to in Cleveland. I keep moving him up!
63. Michael Floyd
64. Julian Edelman
65. TY Hilton
66. Golden Tate
67. Kendall Wright
68. Pierre Thomas
69. Maurice Jones-Drew
70. Stevan Ridley: With all of the James White hype in camp, moved Ridley down to the end of this RB tier.
71. Cam Newton
72. Tom Brady: After seeing both him and RGIII live at training camp, I'm moving Brady above my boy.
73. RGIII
74. Matt Ryan
75. Marques Colston: Moved up a mere one spot, but he might belong a WR tier higher.  Not sure yet.
76. Terrance Williams
77. Emmanuel Sanders: With Peyton Manning throwing the ball to you, the sky is the limit.
78. Mike Wallace
79. Riley Cooper: Thinking about Maclin coming off a torn ACL, I felt like Cooper belonged higher.
80. Eric Decker: Lowered him a few spots.  Concerned with a QB getting him the ball now that he's out of Denver.
81. Vernon Davis
82. Greg Olsen
83. Jeremy Maclin: He fell a few spots (concerned about him losing a step after a torn ACL).
84. Dwayne Bowe: I felt that as a #1 WR (even with Alex Smith throwing to him), Bowe belonged up here.
85. Cecil Shorts: Lowered him a few spots in this tier due to his injury history (and already hurting in camp).
86. Andre Williams: With David Wilson out and Andre apparently the goal line back, he easily cracks the top-100.
87. DeAngelo Williams
88. Fred Jackson: Moved below DeAngelo.  Can't forget about Bryce Brown in Buffalo, and Fred's age...
89. Nick Foles
90. Russell Wilson
91. Colin Kaepernick
92. Tony Romo
93. DeAndre Hopkins: Up a couple of spots, I could reach even higher based on the keeper potential with him.
94. Brandin Cooks: Moved him back up to this rookie WR tier. His training camp hype is through the roof!
95. Mike Evans: Evans and Watkins fell a few spots, but this area is very dynamic based on how the draft goes.
96. Sammy Watkins
97. Carlos Hyde: Moved a few rookie RBs up too, starting with Hyde (who has great opportunity in San Fran).
98. Devonta Freeman: Then Freeman, who is getting a lot of first-team reps with Steven Jackson already hurt.
99. Terrance West: Another rookie riser on the board, but we'll see how the Browns RB battle plays out.
100. Jeremy Hill: May move Hill even higher if Green-Ellis completely gets out of the picture...
101. Jason Witten
102. Kyle Rudolph
103. Darren Sproles
104. Khiry Robinson
105. Chris Ivory
106. Bernard Pierce
107. Darren McFadden
108. Danny Woodhead: Bumped him up a little to this RB tier. Should still be a big part of Charger offense.
109. Knowshon Moreno: As long as he's not on the field, he continues to fall down my big board.
110. Marvin Jones: Moved him and Randle up.  I like their potential more than the older guys in this WR tier.
111. Reuben Randle
112. Reggie Wayne
113. Anquan Boldin
114. Tavon Austin
115. Danny Amendola
116. Dennis Pitta: Injury concerns have me lowering him and Jordan Reed down to this tier with the rest of my ranked TEs.
117. Jordan Reed
118. Zach Ertz
119. Martellus Bennett
120. Ahmad Bradshaw: With Vick Ballard done for the year, Bradshaw moves into the rankings as a clear #2 RB.
121. Lance Dunbar
122. Tre Mason
123. James White: He skipped the "watch list" and rode the hype train all the way into the rankings this week.
124. Justin Hunter: Speaking of hype, some are saying Hunter could be this year's Alshon Jeffrey!
125. Andrew Hawkins: And Hawkins might be the #1 WR in Cleveland by default...
126. Jay Cutler
127. Philip Rivers
128. Andy Dalton
129. Johnny Manziel
130. James Jones
131. Markus Wheaton: I don't want to get crazy moving Wheaton up, but Big Ben has to throw to someone...
132. Kelvin Benjamin
133. Hakeem Nicks
134. Jonathan Stewart: He's injured in training camp already, yet I move him up my rankings?  Go figure.
135. Shonn Greene
136. Stepfan Taylor
137. Andre Brown
138. Kenny Stills
139. Brian Hartline
140. Steve Smith
141. Doug Baldwin
142. Ronnie Hillman: Replaced C.J. Anderson with Hillman, who seems to be the #2 RB in Denver now.
143. Christine Michael
144. LaGarrette Blount: Removed his QB from the top-168, but added him because he's a solid #2 behind Bell.
145. Seahawks DEFENSE
146. 49ers DEFENSE
147. Rams DEFENSE: Week 4 bye stinks, but their schedule looks pretty easy (and I liked their D already).
148. Panthers DEFENSE
149. Bengals DEFENSE
150. Patriots DEFENSE: Up a couple of spots...also have an easy looking schedule.
151. Broncos DEFENSE
152. Chiefs DEFENSE
153. Cardinals DEFENSE
154. Ravens DEFENSE
155. Bucs DEFENSE
156. Saints DEFENSE
157. Stephen Gostkowski
158. Justin Tucker
159. Dan Bailey
160. Phil Dawson
161. Matt Bryant: Even the KICKER gets the Hard Knocks bump!
162. Adam Vinatieri
163. Blair Walsh: He's getting a bump too, but it's more dome-related.
164. Mason Crosby
165. Nick Novak
166. Robbie Gould
167. Shaun Suisham
168. Alex Henery
