2017 Fantasy Football Rankings v1.1

I gave you my "way too early" rankings back in January, and now several moves in free agency have me shaking them up here in April.  Of course there will be even more free agent signings in the coming weeks, but I'm giving you my rankings based on what I know right now.  If you want some additional explanation/speculation that goes beyond my ranking notes below, then I'll give it to you right now!

For instance...

Image result for marshawn lynch raidersIt looks like Marshawn Lynch may lace em back up with the Raiders this year, but that's still not official.  He's in my watch list, but I've moved up Washington and Richard because they're the RBs left on the roster with Latavius Murray now in Minnesota.

I also moved Ty Montgomery way up my rankings because the Packers let Eddie Lacy walk and they cut James Starks.  Montgomery is converting to a full time RB this year, and Christine Michael is the only other viable option on the depth chart as of this writing.  Sure, the Packers may sign someone like Jamaal Charles or LeGarrette Blount.  They could even draft a running back early, but that's not really their style.  Eddie Lacy was the last RB they drafted, and that was in the 2nd round in 2013.  And the last time they drafted a running back in the 1st round?  That would be Darrell Thompson in 1991.  Maybe this is the year Ted Thompson pulls the trigger in Round 1, but I wouldn't hold my breath.  If I were a betting man (and I am), I'd say Green Bay helps their secondary in the first round of this draft.  That being said, if a prime Eddie Lacy replacement like D'Onta Foreman falls into their lap at the end of Round 2, I'll adjust my next rankings accordingly.

Speaking of the NFL Draft, it's now less than 3 weeks away, and I have a handful of rookies in my top-200 (and even more in the watch list below that).  Of course that'll change one way or another depending on where certain guys land, so I'll try to do another rankings update a week or two after the draft.  Until then, check out my notes below next to players who have moved up, down, or even been added to the list.

Cheers,
Bart

1. Le'Veon Bell
2. David Johnson
3. Ezekiel Elliott
4. Antonio Brown
5. Julio Jones: Swapped him with OBJ - Brandon Marshall definitely takes targets away from Odell.
6. Mike Evans
7. Odell Beckham, Jr.
8. LeSean McCoy
9. Jay Ajayi
10. Jordan Howard
11. AJ Green: Moved him and Jordy into the first round for a 12-team league draft.
12. Jordy Nelson
13. Melvin Gordon: With Woodhead off to Baltimore, Gordon loses competition and moves up.
14. Devonta Freeman
15. Todd Gurley: McVay and Whitworth to LA help Gurley's value, moving him up to this RB tier.
16. DeMarco Murray
17. Michael Thomas: I moved Thomas above TY/Dez. With Cooks gone, he might belong in top-12.
18. T.Y. Hilton
19. Dez Bryant
20. Carlos Hyde
21. Lamar Miller
22. Mark Ingram
23. Rob Gronkowski
24. Aaron Rodgers
25. DeAndre Hopkins: Moved to the top of this WR tier. Contract year. Brock gone. And he's good.
26. Amari Cooper
27. Doug Baldwin: I'm not crazy about this WR tier, but I feel like Baldwin belongs in it.
28. Brandin Cooks
29. Davante Adams
30. Allen Robinson
31. CJ Anderson: I had him too low in my initial 2017 rankings. Up to this RB tier.
32. Spencer Ware: And with Jamaal Charles gone, he needed to be moved up to this tier as well.
33. Paul Perkins: Jennings released, so Perkins up 30 spots. I don't think the Giants draft a RB early.
34. Leonard Fournette (R)
35. Dalvin Cook (R)
36. Rob Kelley
37. Michael Crabtree
38. Demaryius Thomas
40. Sammy Watkins: As long as he & Keenan are healthy to start '17, they belong at least in this tier.
41. Keenan Allen
42. Alshon Jeffery: Signed a 1 year deal with the Eagles. Top 30 felt way too high.
43. Tom Brady: Cooks went from New Orleans to New England, so Brady jumps Brees.
44. Drew Brees
45. Andrew Luck: I like the Aiken signing and Doyle re-signing. Luck up to this QB tier.
46. Travis Kelce
47. Jordan Reed
48. Isaiah Crowell: Assuming the Browns don't draft a RB early, he's up to the top of this RB tier.
49. Latavius Murray: Vikings signed Latavius, but that moves him down for me with worse O-line.
50. Jonathan Stewart: Panthers extended him through 2018, so he moves up a couple of spots.
51. Tevin Coleman
52. Jeremy Hill: He was too high originally. May lose lead back duties and O-line lost two starters.
53. Ty Montgomery: With Starks cut and now Lacy gone, had to move Montgomery WAY up.
54. Eddie Lacy: Speaking of Lacy, he could be "Bust Mode" in his 1 year deal with Seattle. Down.
55. Adrian Peterson: Also down a few spots, at least until he lands with a team.
56. Frank Gore
57. Terrelle Pryor, Sr.: Signed a 1 year deal with my Redskins, and I moved him up 12 spots.
58. Jarvis Landry
59. Kelvin Benjamin
60. Golden Tate
61. Julian Edelman: Even with the Cooks signing, he also belongs up to this WR tier.
62. Emmanuel Sanders
63. Larry Fitzgerald: As long as Palmer's back, Fitz should be good for 1000 yards and 7 TDs. Up.
64. Eric Decker: Coming off serious injury, but with Marshall gone, had to move Decker up.
65. Ameer Abdullah
66. Giovani Bernard: Losing O-line worries me, but he was a top-20 RB in '14 & '15. Moving up.
67. LeGarrette Blount: With the Pats signing Burkhead, I bet Blount won't be back (so he's down).
68. Matt Forte: Down to this RB tier too. Probably will be a RBBC with Powell.
69. Christian McCaffery (R): Up to this RB tier, assuming he lands in a decent situation.
70. Mike Williams (R)
71. Corey Davis (R)
72. Russell Wilson
73. Matt Ryan: With Shanahan off to San Fran, I feel like Ryan will regress. Down to this QB tier.
74. Derek Carr
75. Kirk Cousins: New OC. Different WRs. BUT playing for contract...AGAIN! He's up.
76. Dak Prescott
77. Donte Moncrief: This WR tier felt too low, so I moved it above the next RB tier.
78. Jamison Crowder
79. Brandon Marshall: Giants signed him to a 2 year deal, and he's up to this group of WRs.
80. Rishard Matthews
81. Tyreek Hill: Had a great year but felt too high where I had him. Usage too inconsistent.
82. Martavis Bryant: Expected to be re-instated, so he's quickly climbing my rankings.
83. Bilal Powell: Moved him and Riddick up to the top of this RB tier.
84. Theo Riddick
85. Ryan Mathews
86. Kenneth Dixon: Suspended first 4 games for PEDs, so he's down. Could be a steal here though.
87. C.J. Prosise: Lacy/Rawls will fight for early work, but C.J. a different RB. Not down too much.
88. Danny Woodhead: Now in Baltimore, should have a big role, especially those first 4 games.
89. Jamaal Charles: Chiefs cut him, and he's still unsigned. Down a few spots.
90. Charles Sims: With Martin out first 3 games, Sims felt like he should be up to this RB tier.
91. Kenny Britt
92. Stefon Diggs: I had him too low in my initial rankings, so he's up to this WR tier.
93. Tyrell Williams
94. J.J. Nelson
95. John Ross (R): Broke Chris Johnson's 40 time at the combine. Moved him into my top-100.
96. Matthew Stafford
97. Cam Newton: #1 QB in '15. Barely top-20 in '16. Now surgery on throwing shoulder. Down.
98. Jameis Winston
99. Marcus Mariota
100. Ben Roethlisberger
101. Greg Olsen
102. Tyler Eifert
103. Jimmy Graham
104. Delanie Walker
105. DeAndre Washington: Latavius is gone, but what about Marshawn Lynch?  Up for now...
106. Dion Lewis: The addition of Burkhead (and Blount still looming) has me moving Dion down.
107. Jerick McKinnon: AP is gone, but Latavius in town. McKinnon still has value, but lower.
108. Derrick Henry: I had Henry a bit too high. DeMarco still the workhorse (says the coach).
109. Thomas Rawls: With the Eddie Lacy signing, this becomes a very crowded backfield. Down.
110. Duke Johnson
111. Jalen Richard: Also moving up the big board with DeAndre Washington.
112. T.J. Yeldon
113. Doug Martin: Starts '17 suspended. If Tampa drafts an RB early, he'll fall even more for me.
114. Cameron Meredith
115. Mike Wallace
116. DeSean Jackson: Signed with Tampa, which doesn't hurt his value. Moved up a few spots.
117. Corey Coleman
118. Willie Snead: Moved well into the top-150 now that Cooks is gone.
119. Martellus Bennett: Should be a top fantasy TE in Green Bay, so he moved up a couple of tiers.
120. Kyle Rudolph
121. Cameron Brate
122. Devin Funchess: Ted Ginn is gone, so Funchess becomes the clear #2 WR.  Way up.
123. Quincy Enunwa: Likewise with Brandon Marshall now a Giant. These two both climbing.
124. Josh Doctson
125. DeVante Parker: With the Dolphins re-signing Stills, I'm starting to lose faith in Parker.
126. Kevin White
127. Breshad Perriman
128. Joe Mixon (R): Felt like he needed to be higher. Some team will take a chance on him.
129. Rex Burkhead: Patriots signed him. Up, assuming Blount out of NE...
130. Terrance West
131. Randall Cobb
132. Jeremy Maclin
133. Adam Thielen: Still a Viking...not a bad thing.  Moved him back up to this WR tier.
134. Marvin Jones
135. Marqise Lee
136. Tyler Lockett
137. Sterling Shepard: Down a bit due to the Brandon Marshall signing.
138. Tyrod Taylor: Stays in Buffalo. Leapfrogs Rivers. May even belong up a QB tier.
139. Philip Rivers
140. Zach Ertz
141. O.J. Howard (R): Projected to be a top-10 pick, so he moves from watch list into top-150.
142. Jack Doyle: Colts let Allen walk and re-signed Doyle to a 3-year $19 million deal. Up.
143. Hunter Henry
144. Eric Ebron
145. Broncos DEFENSE
146. Seahawks DEFENSE
147. Will Fuller: If I'm moving DeAndre Hopkins up slightly, same goes for Fuller.
148. John Brown: If he's healthy, he belongs up here. Could be a contract year too.
149. Pierre Garcon: Signed with San Fran...but who is his QB?
150. Robert Woods: Signed a big deal with the Rams.  Back to SoCal, but don't get carried away.
151. Jacquizz Rodgers: Re-signed with Bucs. Should be lead back, at least to start the season. Up.
152. Mike Gillislee
153. Tim Hightower: Signed with the 49ers. Handcuff to an injury prone Carlos Hyde. Up a bit.
154. Chris Ivory: He and Sproles down a few spots to this RB tier.
155. Darren Sproles
156. Kenny Stills: Staying in Miami. Down slightly because I thought he might land in better spot.
157. Taylor Gabriel
158. Cole Beasley
159. Eli Manning: Moved above Bortles/Dalton. Brandon Marshall another good target for him.
160. Andy Dalton: Lost two O-lineman. LaFell re-signed (weak). He's down to this QB tier.
161. Carson Wentz: Added to this QB tier because he now actually has some WRs to throw to.
162. Blake Bortles
163. Devontae Booker
164. Christine Michael: Re-signed with Packers. Moved up until GB signs/drafts someone else...
165. James White: Moved him up to the rankings. Lots of RBs in New England, but whatever, right?
166. Wendell Smallwood
167. Chris Thompson: Redskins re-signed him, but different offensive coordinator now. Down.
168. Ted Ginn: Signed with the Saints.  Moved up to the rankings with Cooks gone.
169. Jordan Matthews: Eagles signed Alshon and Torrey. Matthews moving closer to the watch list.
170. Michael Floyd: Down a few spots until he signs with a team. Still a free agent.
171. Tajae Sharpe
172. Tyler Boyd: Bengals re-signed LaFell to a 2 year $10 mil deal.  Boyd down a bunch.
173. Alvin Kamara (R): Had a great combine, so I added him to the top-200.
174. D'Onta Foreman (R): Added him too. Seems like someone who could have an instant impact.
175. Charcandrick West: With Charles gone, I'm now assuming West will keep his playing time.
176. Knile Davis: Steelers signed him to 1 year deal. DeAngelo gone. Davis the likely handcuff.
177. Kenyan Drake
178. Kenjon Barner: Signed a one year deal with the Chargers. Could fill Woodhead role there.
179. Chiefs DEFENSE: Dontari Poe leaving is a big loss.  Down to the top of the rest of the Ds.
180. Cardinals DEFENSE
181. Patriots DEFENSE
182. Texans DEFENSE
183. Vikings DEFENSE
184. Ravens DEFENSE
185. Giants DEFENSE
186. Panthers DEFENSE
187. Bengals DEFENSE
188. Packers DEFENSE
189. Justin Tucker
190. Stephen Gostkowski
191. Dan Bailey
192. Matt Bryant
193. Cairo Santos
194. Sebastian Janikowski
195. Matt Prater
196. Mason Crosby
197. Steven Hauschka: I shuffled some Ks around, including Hauschka (who is now in Buffalo).
198. Adam Vinatieri
199. Nick Novak
200. Graham Gano

...and here are a few more players at each position I'll likely consider ranking in the months ahead.

I call it "The Watch List" (super clever, right?):

QBs
Deshaun Watson (R)
Mitchell "Don't Call Me Mitch" Trubisky (R)
DeShone Kizer (R)
Pat Mahomes (R): Adding him to the rookie QBs in the watch list because, well, you never know...
Carson Palmer
Jimmy Garoppolo: Stays in the watch list, at least until the draft. Could end up elsewhere via trade.
Joe Flacco: Moved down to the watch list. Unless they draft/sign a WR, Joe has very few weapons.
Ryan Tannehill: Added to the watch list. Has solid trio of WRs and now Julius Thomas too.
RBs
Marshawn Lynch: With the hype about him potentially going to Oakland, he had to be in this list.
Rashad Jennings: Dropped down to the watch list.  He is terrible and the G-Men cut him.
Justin Forsett: Moved him down here too, but I have a feeling Forsett might be done.
DeAngelo Williams: Steelers not planning to re-sign him, so he's down to the watch list.
Shane Vereen: Thought I should at least add him to the watch list.
Shaun Draughn: Same with this guy, who signed a one year deal with the Giants.
Zach Zenner
Alfred Morris
Darren McFadden
Matt Asiata
Fozzy Whittaker
Cameron Artis-Payne
Matt Jones
Alfred Blue
Tyler Ervin
Robert Turbin
Jeremy Langford
James Starks
Samaje Perine (R)
Jeremy McNichols (R)
Wayne Gallman (R)

WRs
Tavon Austin
Brandon LaFell
Allen Hurns: Could he bounce back?  Sure. But he's staying in the watch list.
Brian Quick: Signed a 1 year contract with the Redskins. Not sure he'll have much fantasy value.
Andre Ellington: Re-signed with Arizona, but converting to a WR. Down to watch list for now.
Malcolm Mitchell: With the Patriots getting Cooks, Mitchell moved down to the watch list.
Laquon Treadwell: Moved him down to the watch list, at least for now. So much potential though.
Kendall Wright: Added to watch list. Could do well with a change in scenery (Chicago).
Torrey Smith: Released by the 49ers. Signed 3 year deal with the Eagles...meh.
Kamar Aiken: Signed a one year deal with the Colts, so he's in the watch list for now.
Phillip Dorsett
Eli Rogers
Sammie Coates
Dontrelle Inman
Travis Benjamin
Anquan Boldin
Mohamed Sanu
Robby Anderson
Josh Gordon
Vincent Jackson
Chris Godwin (R): Added to the watch list. Showed great speed at the combine.
ArDarius Stewart (R): Also added this highly rated WR out of Alabama to the watch list.
Dede Westbrook (R)
Zay Jones (R)
Amara Darboh (R)
Travis Rudolph (R)
Curtis Samuel (R): Added him to the list too, though not sure if he'll get drafted as a RB or WR.

TEs
Ladarius Green: Moved down to the watch list.  He can't stay on the field (concussions).
Zach Miller: Not sure Mike Glennon is an upgrade. Moving down to the watch list for now.
Dwayne Allen: Traded to Patriots, but staying on the watch list.
C.J. Fiedorowicz: Added to the watch list.  Probably a top-20 fantasy TE in 2017.
Julius Thomas
Gary Barnidge
Coby Fleener
Jared Cook: Now in Oakland. Now on my watch list.
Vance McDonald
Austin Hooper
Tyler Higbee: Added to watch list.  McVay likes his tight ends.
Charles Clay
Vernon Davis: Re-signed with Washington. And remember how injury prone Jordan Reed is...
David Njoku (R): Added him to the list. He's projected as a potential first rounder!
Jake Butt (R)
Gerald Everett (R): Added him to the list too, but will depend on who drafts him if he moves up.

DEFs
Chargers
Falcons
Dolphins
Steelers
Eagles
Bills
Raiders

Ks
Daniel Carlson (R)
Zane Gonzalez (R)
Caleb Sturgis: Added a few more kickers down here because I'll remove early bye week guys later.
Dustin Hopkins
Blair Walsh
